Course Overview
This nationally recognised course equips you with the foundational knowledge and practical skills to safely erect, alter, and dismantle basic scaffolding structures in line with Australian Standards and industry regulations.
Designed for those entering high-risk work environments, this training delivers essential competencies for working at heights, handling scaffold materials, and applying safe work practices on-site. This course is ideal for those seeking a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) in basic scaffolding and is delivered face-to-face by experienced instructors.
What you will learn
Participants will develop a thorough understanding of:
- WHS Regulations, Codes, AS/NZ 1576 and 4576
- Safe handling, transport, and inspection of materials
- Fall prevention, tethering, and dropped-object safety
- Tube and coupler components, types of tubes, fittings, boards
- Assessing scaffold material needs
- Safety harness use and inspection
- Ropes, knots, and hitches
- Reading simple scaffold drawings
- Erecting and dismantling modular and cantilevered scaffolds
- Safe access and storage of scaffolding materials
- Scaffold builds gin wheel, safety net and static line install and bracket scaffolds

Eligibility criteria
All candidates must meet the minimum Language, Literacy, and Numeracy requirements.
Candidates must also:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Present photo ID (current driver’s licence or passport)
- Physically able to undertake manual handling tasks
- Be able to work safely at heights – Provide RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights
Prior to attending the practical training session, students must complete the online theory section in their own time, with learning content issued once the booking is confirmed.
Assessment requirements
Competency is assessed through both theory and practical assessments.
To successfully complete the unit, participants must demonstrate satisfactory performance across all assessment tasks.
Certification and renewal
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and Notice of Assessment CPCCLSF2001 – Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level.
Completion of this unit does not in itself grant a High Risk Work Licence. A separate application must be submitted to WorkSafe WA.
