The Work at Heights + Confined Spaces Refresher course is designed for individuals who have previously completed RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights and RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces, and need to update their skills and understanding in line with current legislation and best practices.
This dual refresher combines two critical areas of high-risk work into a streamlined learning experience that reinforces safe procedures and compliance in hazardous environments. The course addresses the latest WHS regulations, Australian Standards, and industry requirements—ensuring participants remain confident and competent in the field.
Ideal for those working in construction, mining, shutdowns, oil & gas, and utilities, this refresher helps maintain alignment with workplace and legislative expectations.
What you will learn
- Review current legislation, rules, and industry requirements
- Refresh hazard identification and risk management strategies
- Reinforce planning and preparation for working at heights and in confined spaces
- Practice safe access and exit procedures for confined spaces
- Revisit entry permit requirements and compliance
- Refresh correct selection, installation, and use of fall protection equipment
- Review safe equipment access and installation practices
- Reinforce hazard control measures and maintaining a safe work environment
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must:
- Be physically able to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Be in good general health and fitness
Candidates must be able to provide a Statement of Attainment for the units RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights and RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces.
Assessment requirements
A candidate cannot be deemed competent for the unit unless they are able to demonstrate satisfactory performance (to the required level) in all assessment tasks.
Certification and renewal
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights and RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces
While neither unit has an official expiry, industry best practice recommends refresher training every three years, due to updates in legislation, Australian Standards, and WHS guidelines.
Completion of this unit does not in itself grant a High Risk Work Licence. A separate application must be submitted to WorkSafe WA.
